One of the biggest problems on any sailboat is fridge space. There are a few boats out there that were built for liveaboards and have ample space, but many of the cruising community are living on former charter boats. Charter boats were designed for week long trips and lots of eating out…not for cheap cruisers trying to hoard a costco haul.
Dometic, who makes pretty much everything else on your boat, has come up with a solution. They make some great electric coolers that run on either AC or DC. This one has two zones that can be switched between freezer and fridge at will. This 100L unit is a gigantic 99L cooler that can be either a fridge or a freezer. We have both. While they’re great, they do have limits. We’ve never been able to run the two zone cooler as a double freezer, and we have to use AC (not DC) on the single zone cooler to make it a freezer.
